Kabul-June 4, 2016: On behalf of DCDA management team we would like to congratulate the entire Afghan Nation and the involved government bodies for the inauguration of the Salma Dam; a national mega project in the Chesht district of Herat province.

Salma Dam is one of the national mega projects in Afghanistan, which will bring an overall economic change in the lifestyle of the Afghan people as a whole especially the south-western farmers of the country. The project was funded by the Republic of India and officially inaugurated by H.E. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani – President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and H.E. Narendra Modi – Prime Minister of India on June 4, 2016.

It is said that the aforementioned dam has the capacity to store more than 500 cubic meters of waters in its basin and will irrigate around 70 hectares of land in the Herat province. Salma Dam was one of the main projects of the country in the era of late first president of Afghanistan, Mohammad Dawood Khan, where the project initially started in 1976 by the Republic of India. For second time the same Indian Construction Company (WAPCOS Ltd), after 27 years re-commenced the onsite construction of Salma dam in 2005, which has been successfully completed and put in operation today.
